Physical Education

The Physical Education curriculum is designed to be varied, purposeful and enjoyable, providing each and every pupil with a sense of achievement and a positive attitude towards post school recreation. The department aims to develop skills and strongly promote it. The School aims to enable academic opportunities to provide students with a depth of knowledge and an interest for those who seek a career in sport or pursue sporting studies as an end in itself.

All pupils have at least two lessons per week (60 minutes duration) and arrive in the department half a year at a time. The pupils are normally split into groups of 15-25 depending on the number of classes in each half year.

Extra-Curricular Activities

As a department we believe that sport should be for all pupils at some level but also talent individuals must be encouraged to reach their full potential. Whether pupils participate for competition, fun, fitness, or use the activities as a pastime, we believe our present programme offers pupils an opportunity to develop a healthy active lifestyle and hopefully encourage long life participation in sport.

Sporting activities at The Albany include football, netball, rugby, cricket, track & field, cross-country, basketball, gymnastics, badminton, swimming, rounder, trampolining, tennis and BMX club.

Interhouse Competitions

Throughout the year the Physical Education department organises inter house competitions for all pupils. This gives pupils an opportunity to participate in competition against other members of the school. Activities include house football, rugby, netball, tug of war, swimming, rounders and athletics.
